2024 programme

A rich and varied programme awaits you at the Abbey Church of Payerne in 2024!

25 FEBRUARY 2024: CLOSING OF THE “CLUNY#TOUSCONNECTÉS” EXHIBITION AND CONCERT BY IN VIA

The “Cluny #tousconnectés” exhibition has been extended until 25 February. After that date, it will move to Cluny itself, where it will be exhibited at the Farinier, the mill tower, during the second half of 2024. On 25 February, there will be a final day to visit the exhibition in Payerne, followed by a concert by In Via.

On the programme:

13:30-15:45: Opening of the discovery trail and last opportunity to discover the temporary exhibition “Cluny #tousconnectés” (exhibition included in the ticket for the discovery trail)

3.45pm-4.15pm: Presentation of the songs at the Art’Lab

4.30-5.30pm: concert by In Via in the Abbey Church (free admission, collection)

5.30-6.30pm: aperitif in the Salle Cluny

FROM 22 MARCH TO 23 JUNE 2024: “COLLECTIONS AT A GLANCE: NEW ACQUISITIONS” EXHIBITION

From 22 March to 23 June, as a complement to the discovery trail, you will be able to admire for the first time the works acquired by the museum between 2019 and 2023. The presentation of 18 previously unpublished works will also address the theme of the acquisition policy, a text signed between the Commune of Payerne, owner of the collection, and the Association du site de l’Abbatiale de Payerne (ASAP), manager of the collection.

10 TO 21 JULY 2024: OPERA BY THE EMPRESS

The Association des concerts de Payerne, the Association pour la mise en valeur des orgues Ahrend de Payerne and the Association du site de l’Abbatiale de Payerne have joined forces to bring to fruition a rather crazy project, “L’Opéra de l’Impératrice”, which aims to highlight both the exceptional architecture of the site and the life of Empress Adélaïde, through the staging of Lotario by Georges Frederic Handel. 6 performances will be given between 10 and 21 July in the courtyard of the Château.

FROM 27 JULY TO 11 AUGUST 2024: THE MONKS’ GARDEN

The courtyard of the Château, the former cloister courtyard, will be the setting for the 3rd Monks’ Garden this summer.

Installed in the former cloister courtyard, the ephemeral garden recalls the function of this place in the days of the monastery. Developed in partnership with the city of Payerne’s Parks and Promenades department, it offers a place to relax and discover. Like last year, the Monks’ Garden will feature aromatic and medicinal plants and their virtues. Visitors can pick their own, in moderation, to accompany a drink or a dish.

To quench their thirst and grab a bite to eat in this peaceful, leafy setting, visitors are invited to pick up their drinks at the Café du Marché, opposite the main entrance to the Abbey Church.

FROM 19 TO 22 SEPTEMBER 2024: SECOND EDITION OF “DE VERT ET D’ART

“De Vert et d’Art” returns in 2024. As in the first edition, floral arrangements will be combined with paintings from the collections in the Abbey Church. In the courtyard of the Château, horticultural compositions will respond to the multi-faceted architecture of the buildings in the former cloister courtyard. The Place du Marché will be home to a local plant market.

During the four days of the event, demonstrations of plant creations, guided tours and workshops (in French) will also be offered on the site. So many opportunities to discover the Abbey Church site in a different way and to share a moment of artistic conviviality.
