Concert of Light

Sunday 30 June 2024 at 6.00 am

In the 17th century, even in small ensembles, the practice of “double choir” was common, whether through arrangements of older works or original compositions. The latter sometimes experimented with “staging” effects such as echoes or responses/dialogues (risposta).

Although the repertoire most often requires one or two ‘dessus’ (vocal or instrumental soprani) and bass, the various collections regularly include a few equal-voice pieces for three or four ‘dessus’. In these cases, the music takes on a captivating, ethereal, almost angelic quality. It is this repertoire that the Ensemble Barberine invites you to discover under the vaults of the Abbey of Payerne, in the light of dawn.

Works by Alessandro Grandi, Lodovico da Viadana, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Carlo G., Salomone Rossi and Nicolò Corradini.

This programme will also be performed on 7 June in Lausanne as part of the Policorali concerts organised by the Organopôle Foundation at St-François church.
