The Vaudois Revolution

End of the 18th-beginning of the 19th century

Following the Vaudois revolution and the creation of the canton of Vaud, the Abbey Church briefly became the canton’s property before being purchased by the city of Payerne in 1804. In the following decades, it was used as military barracks, a gymnasium, and a prison among other things.
