Discovery Concerts

From August 9 to 11, 2024

During a few summer weekends, the historic center of Payerne hosts the Monk’s Garden: a tranquil space where vegetation, the fountain, and music refresh the body, awaken the senses, and offer the soul a moment of calm. Alternating between the two medieval churches and the former cloister, mini discovery concerts offer anyone interested a taste of early music, centered around the organs or featuring a guest instrumentalist.

From August 9th to 11th, 2024, Baroque violist Bettina Ruchti will join Payerne. She will perform works by Georg Philipp Telemann and Johann Sebastian Bach, either alternately or accompanied by the organs. In the abbey church, the movements for solo viola or organ offer the audience a unique experience of the venue’s acoustics. In the cloister garden, Baroque music converses with the fountain and the birds. Finally, in the parish church, the Baroque viola is accompanied by the 18th-century organ for a duo repertoire!

On Friday, August 9th, at 4:30 PM, discovery concert in the courtyard of the former cloister: pieces for solo Baroque viola alternating with the regal.

On Saturday, August 10th, at 11:30 AM, in the abbey church*: Suite in D minor and Canzona in D minor by J. S. Bach
at 2:30 PM, in the parish church: Concerto and Suite by G. P. Telemann for viola and organ
at 4:30 PM, in the courtyard of the former cloister

On Sunday, August 11th, at 2:30 PM in the abbey church* and 4:30 PM in the parish church.
