Discovery Concerts

From July 26 to 28 2024

After the grand operatic adventure of the Empress’s Opera, the courtyard of the former Payerne cloister once again hosts, as in previous years, the Monks’ Garden: a space of tranquillity where the vegetation, the fountain, or the music refresh the body, awaken the senses, and offer the soul a moment of calm. Alternating between the two medieval churches and the old cloister, mini discovery concerts offer anyone who wishes a taste of ancient music, around the organs or with a guest instrumentalist.

Discovery concerts on Fridays (4:30 pm), Saturdays (11:30 am, 2:30 pm, 4:30 pm), and Sundays (2:30 pm, 4:30 pm) from 7 July to 13 August: 20 minutes of music in one of the medieval churches or in the courtyard.

The 26th, 27th, and 28th of July 2024 are favourable for a “return to the sources” of the keyboard repertoires of the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries:

On Friday, 26 July at 4:30 pm, a discovery concert in the courtyard of the old cloister, with a 16th-century programme featuring German tablatures played on the regal.

On Saturday, 27 July at 11:30 am, in the abbey church*, organ works by G. Frescobaldi; at 2:30 pm, organ works by J. S. Bach in the parish church; at 4:30 pm, in the courtyard of the old cloister, a return to the 16th century with German tablatures.

On Sunday, 28 July, at 2:30 pm in the Abbey Church* and 4:30 pm in the Parish Church.

*Concerts included in the admission ticket for the discovery tour. The concerts in the parish church and the courtyard of the former cloister are free of charge. Collection at the exit.
