A glance at the collections: new acquisitions

From 22 March to 23 June 2024

(Temporary exhibition in French)

In the interests of society and its development, museums preserve collections according to a specific acquisition policy. In Payerne, the acquisition policy was established in 2022, jointly by the Commune of Payerne, as owner of the works, and the Association du site de l’Abbatiale de Payerne (ASAP), as manager. Its aim is to formalise and clarify practices that have already been in place for many years, by highlighting the guidelines for the reasoned constitution of the collection. This exhibition, “A glance at the collections: new Acquisitions”, reveals 18 of the 42 new acquisitions made by the museum between 2019 and 2023. The majority of the works on display come from the artistic output of Aimée Rapin (1868-1956), a local painter and a key figure in the museum’s collections. They include portraits and bouquets of flowers, which were predominant in the artist’s work, as well as lesser-known subjects such as landscape painting and nudes. The works on display will be examined from the point of view of their artistic and historical contribution to the museum’s collection.
