Temporary exhibition – “CLUNY #TOUSCONNECTÉS

From 17 June 2023 to 25 February 2024

(Exhibition in French and German)

Cluny, an outstanding medieval abbey… Since its foundation in the 10th century, its reputation has grown and it has served as a model for many monasteries throughout Europe! Thanks to this network of Cluniac sites, Cluny left its mark on the Western world for almost nine centuries, not only spiritually, but also politically, socially, economically and culturally.

But did you know that nine medieval monasteries in what is now Switzerland were also directly dependent on Cluny? And that several of them are still preserved today, inviting you to take a stroll in the heart of nature or a city?

And how did all these Cluniac monks manage to stay connected to each other, without the solutions offered by our modern communication, transport and information networks?

This new temporary exhibition in the Abbey of Payerne will give you the essential keys to understanding the history of the Abbey of Cluny and the workings of its network, from its origins to its tragic end.
