As part of the Good Friday concert series inaugurated in 2024 to mark the 300th anniversary of the St. John Passion, the Association des Concerts de Payerne is delighted to present Johann Sebastian Bach’s St. John Passion in an exceptional version. Staying true to the concept of the series, which each year features the Passion performed by Bach in Leipzig 300 years earlier, the audience in Payerne will have the chance to discover the second version of the work. This 1725 version, significantly different from the first and the usual version, includes new opening and closing choruses as well as several new arias. Thanks to the full preservation of the orchestral material for this version, and in collaboration with the Chamber Choir of the University of Fribourg and its conductor Pascal Mayer, this rare concert can be realized.
