L’Abbatiale à 181 degrés is an exhibition conceived and organised by the Association du site de l’Abbatiale de Payerne (ASAP) in partnership with 181 degrés, the cultural centre of Payerne. This collaboration brings the Abbey Church to life in a new way, through the creativity of today’s artists. 19 artists from the region took up the challenge and imagined original works, specially created for the occasion and inspired by the building and its history.
Past and present thus meet in a singular exhibition offering an unexpected discovery of the site. Through painting, installation, ceramics, textiles and video, today’s artists explore the endless possibilities inspired by the thousand-year-old building.
The Romanesque architecture, the painted and sculpted decoration, the sacred character of the site and the story of Berthe and Adelaide meet the artists’ own imagination, resulting in 17 sensitive works – sometimes humorous, sometimes moving, at times fantastical, committed or simply surprising.
Exhibition texts are available in French and German.
