Vaudois archaeology from every angle: three exhibitions, three perspectives

During the winter of 2025–2026, Vaudois archaeology becomes the common thread linking three emblematic sites in the canton of Vaud: the Abbatiale of Payerne, Chillon Castle and the Palais de Rumine.

Three exhibitions engage in dialogue, offering original insights into the development of archaeology in the canton of Vaud and beyond.

📍At the Palais de Rumine, discover how 19th-century archaeology in Egypt, Greece, Rome and Switzerland shaped our understanding of the past.

📍At Chillon, explore how Albert Naef’s excavations and the creation of the collections turned the castle into a major heritage site.

📍In Payerne, be surprised by the legacy of Louis Bosset, cantonal archaeologist and architect, who restored the Abbatiale’s medieval splendour and left a lasting mark on the city’s urban development.

A true journey through time, showcasing the evolution of a discipline through three complementary perspectives.

Exhibitions respectively designed by the Cantonal Museum of Archaeology and History in collaboration with the Naturéum, and by the Chillon Castle Foundation and the Association of the Abbatiale of Payerne site.
